Not sure what to do next. I did the bucket test motor pumps good. I can water from the water tube up through a hose: good water flow: I start motor up in a barrel still 0 water. Any suggestions?

I installed new water tube grommet, new gasket. Impeller was also just installed looks brand new.

Are you sure your lining up the water tube?
Water tube grommet in good condition?
Ware plate in good condition?
Water above pump level when on the motor for testing?

Took motor down to the river last night. i wanted to make sure i had plenty of water to pump. Still no pump from motor. I will recheck impeller key.

Would a bad thermostat completely block waterflow?

What gasket are you referring to? Also, are you spinning the driveshaft counter clockwise?
I am referring to the gasket between the impeller and the plate. I replaced it. The marina only had the top one for sale. Bottom gasket (below metal plate) was in pretty great shape already.

Drive Shaft is clockwise. I slowed video down to .25 speed just to be sure. I noticed same thing after I shot video. :)

Any water shooting out the two exhaust holes when running? Is the head getting to hot?

If not thermostat should be next on your list.

I went ahead and ordered the water gasket, thermostat and rubber ring for thermostat. Do you like Loctite aviation gasket sealant or Permatex aviation no. 3? Last thing to order.

Only water shooting out of exhaust holes is when hose is pumping. If outboard is running it does absolutely 0 water. Some smoke but that's it.

Smoke or steam? Blown head gasket, crack in block? Does the paint on the head looked discolored from an overheat? Water going up and out of the motor doesn't mean it traveling where you need it to go not to mention the hose test probably means nothing. You would have to duplicate pressure and volume of the pump.

Either your not getting the tube lined up correctly or you have something more serious.

This is me last week. Should have kept your 25

I should've kept that 25. That is correct. I had countless hours in that thing to finally get it running right. I was chasing more HP.

We ran it on muffs at the guys house and it was pumping ok. It wasn't great, but I've also never had great lucks with muffs. It started up good and 120/120 compression. I figured new impeller worst case scenario. I was wrong.

Steam. The head is not discolored. I have seen it pump, but it seems to have stopped pumping since I brought the motor home.[/MEDIA]

its steam not smoke. Head is not discolored at all.

You are 100% right about keeping that 25. I was chasing more HP. She ran good.

We hooked this motor up to muffs. It was pumping at the guys house I traded for. It was sorta weak but pumping consistently. I've never had good luck with muffs, so I thought Impeller at worse.

120/120 compression.
Compression check....pull the head, pray its a gasket.
compression is 120/120. Im pulling the water jacket cover this evening when i get home from work to see how the thermostat looks. I've got a picture i need to post, but seems i keep getting errors. I think my upper water tube gromment might be missing? But i cant seem to post pictures.

Can't trust a water hose and muffs. Pressure from the hose could easily over ride a bad impeller and give you a false reading.

Pulled thermostat. A bunch of paper and crap was up on there. I’m wondering if this is gasket from previous impeller. Encouraging to see something blocking water makes me think this thing will be salvageable.
