Select small engine repair

Select Marine/Boat motor

Scroll down & select manufacturer

Specific for your year & motor would be better, but in a pinch the combined is better then nothing

Man this is gold! Thank you!!

You're welcome, but that is totally compliments of another iboater, I just pass it along when I remember to ;)

WingedFoot? maybe??? Anyway, it was posted a fairly long while ago, but it still works...

with the bullets DozerII mentioned...I added a stancheon in front of the gap
and also put an extra one on the starboard side to make it look more symmetrical...
I think DozerII's idea ...removing the railing at the very tip of the bow has merit..
you can mount the trolling motor at the very point of the bow...which people
claim is the best spot for a trolling motor..but you will have to mount your
bow light on a pole so other boaters can see it and you lose the flag mount
at the bow....even though my trolling motor is off to the side of the bow
it still seems to work fine for me...

Re: 1976 Starcraft SS 16' Resto Project

I have often wondered how the trolling motor would perform off-centered like that. Apparently it doesn't make much difference, that's good to know. I thought of leaving a large gap in the center of the bow, but I have plenty of time to decide I suppose. I am currently picking apart my trailer to add new bunks and brackets, then I'll have to pull my flywheel and replace a stator or trigger assembly--not looking forward to that!!

Oh and where did you find those stanchions, starcraft16ss? I'm assuming they're new, they look shiny! Is that new tubing also?

Re: 1976 Starcraft SS 16' Resto Project

I needed 2 extra 60degree bases and 2 extra 60degree Tee Fittings and some rail....
I was able to find matching used 60degree Tee Fittings and used railing at Twin City Outboards...
I ended up replacing all the bases with new ones...made of Zamak...wish I had used Stainless Steel...:(
Zamak tends to pit....:(
Might replace all my fittings with SS next summer...
The Bullets are Stainless Steel made by Sea Dog...
iboats sells 7/8" x 6' taco aluminum railing with .058" wall thickness for $29.50
They also sell many brands of bases & tee fittings...
Many of the fittings have a left and right side depending on where the set screws are located...:D

Sweet. As it happens, I'm out of money this month! So I'll begin the resto by fixing the trailer, (it doesn't have bunks), then I'll rip out the floor and transom..

Re: 1976 Starcraft SS 16' Resto Project

I picked this up this 16' Starcraft SS, 1986 Mercury 115 inline 6cyl, and trailer for FREE!! So I am super excited about this project! However I have never owned a boat before, and I have no idea what I'm doing here..any input is extremely welcome!

I plan to tear her down to the hull and replace everything. The engine won't turn over, but the boat has been sitting up for a few years. Taking off the cover, I'm convinced that the second prior owner had kept it up, but the first prior owner let it go. The water pump needs to be replaced, and there's a couple of wires coming down from the top near the flywheel that are totally corroded and broken off at the terminal. The good news is, the motor isn't locked up. I'll post pictures of the motor soon. I built an engine stand yesterday, I'll post pictures of it too.

I only have one picture to share, a cell phone picture of the boat in my driveway the day I picked it up.

Wow, looks like we are working on identical boats, you've done good getting into it for free.

I noticed you are going to be running a 115 horse motor, the USCG plate on mine says nothing more than 85Hp. I'm sure the weight difference isn't significant, is that a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? I hear that 2 strokes are lighter by comparison.

How can you be broke when you have a free boat? Glad to see you back, Dustin. Get to work and spend some money on her. :)
