I recently purchased this motor and have owned a Mercury before this. I need some help hooking up the harness. The red plug is obvious but I am not sure were the other two cables go. There is a black cable and a yellow cable that says "disconnect battery before disconnecting solenoid". I am assuming these go to the motor somewhere because there is already battery leads farther down on the harness. Thanks, Josh

I think the black will hook directly up to the 3/8 stud on the port side of the engine. I don't know about the yellow...

Normally there are only two battery cables and the cannon plug in the harness. One bleack cable is a ground and the red cable goes to the starter solenoid. I don't think I have ever seen a yellow cable.

If the black and yellow cables are the same gauge....AND they both have a ring connector on their ends, I'd make two inferences...:

1) that "yellow" cable is very faded, and was red originally. Peel back a bit of the harness sheath and see if the colour changes where the light did not get at it.
2) If 1) is correct, that cable goes to the solenoid.
