1976 Evinrude Lower Unit Question!

Hey everyone , My 1976 Evinrude 85hp outboard finally blew its lower unit and am just wondering exactly what years of Johnson or Evinrude lower units would work on my engine.

I believe 1973 to 1977.

I found the model number today and even though its a little scratched I think it reads 85693 D.
What years and hp of the Johnson and Evinrude lowers would fit this engine? Are the johnsons and evinrude in the 70's exactly the same?

Boobie is correct, you need to find a hydro-mechanical shift unit off a 85/115/135 of those years..

So just to be sure, I should be on the look out for a 1973-1977 Evinrude/Johnson 85hp or 115hp engine to make the correct replacement of my lower unit without any modifications?

Think I may have found the replacement today, a 1974 johnson 85hp. Seller said the only thing wrong is its not pumping water so Ill figure a water pump rebuild kit. Hes asking 100$ sounds good?
