post #22...you couldn't get the main jet as it wouldn't unscrew, but you know it to be clean. Welllll....I suggest you remove the float bowl drain plug, insert the straw from the carb cleaner and blast away....you should see carb cleaner spraying up into the carb throat with a lot of force through the nozzle. Repeat this 4 or 5 times. Replace the float bowl drain, prime it, choke it, advance the throttle and try to start it. Any difference now?

I drained the carb earlier and put the straw for carb cleaner in the fuel hookup and once the bowl filled it would shoot out the vent in the front of the carb. That shouldn't happen right?

welp.. I suppose you know the vent's open now...not all carb sprays are rubber and plastic friendly, be careful what you expose those parts to..since you're familiar with Leroy's Ramblings on this model...if you'll go to his site and refer to the parts diagram for the carb...#21..Boss or Nozzle gasket..is yours in place?..#27 Orfice Plug or main jet...you can clean it in place but you must be sure it is absolutely clean and spotless...#35..core plug...did you remove this and clean the 3 or 4 holes that exit that chamber?..they are small and enter the carb throat behind the throttle butterfly...#15..Idle Mixture Needle..as Oldboat suggested...have you removed it and made certain that passageway is clean as a whistle?...#22..Float..installed with float arm tab pointing towards the carb body, not the float bowl, and the float is parallel with the float bowl flange on the carb body?...if you are absolutely certain all is correct..all I can suggest is you get another float, a cork one, and try that instead...other than buying a used carb and rebuilding it, I don't know of anything else to suggest

I found a listing on Craigslist for 2 60s to 70s Evinrude and Johnson. The Evinrude looks the same vintage as my 6hp. Would the carbs work on mine. He's asking 85 for the 2. The listing says they are seized but many good parts. Would it be worth looking at and would they work? Thanks.

Too much, imo. If doing an Ebay or CL search, look for a '76 first, then branch out if you need to. But figure on rebuilding anything you get, so need a kit too.

Got it going. I put a new set of points and looming further one coil looked bad. Replaced that and condensers and just a little bit of tinkering she runs and stays running. The high speed jet got clogged after a few days. Would that be the gas or just maybe some deposits circulating from the carb being gummed up before?
