1976 Evinrude 2hp hard to start

I have a HP evinrude model 2602S that is very hard to start when cold. How can I make it easier to start, and what should I check for problems?

open fuel ****, open vent on tank. move throttle to just past start. pull choke out, pull rope 3 times, should fire off. when were the coils, points last checked.

I am not sure when the points were chcked last. I just looked at the points and they need changing. So I guess that was the problem all of the time.
