1976 850 no spark

I've checke the trigger and stator. Seems as though the mercury switch is bad. Can I put a jumper around this switch to see if I have sprk, or will this damage the switch box? Thanks.

Good Morning!
The mercury switch closes to ground, so you would just have to disconnect it to check it.
