Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey jas, did you scratch up the aluminum real bad, or did it hold up under all that coarse sanding? Are you going to need to go over it with 320 or something finer before you prime/paint?

I'm debating on how to proceed with mine, so inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks!

Well, I am not entirely sure...

There seems to be some questions on the back, maybe some sort of code that needs to be broken in order to have it attached...

Question #1
What is your name?

Question #2
What is your quest?

Question #3
What is the air speed velocity of an unladen Swallow?

Whew I hope I don't blow it!

European or African swallow ?

Yah, it held up pretty well. My plan is to sand it again through 220 grit (I think 220 should do it), seal up all the holes, prime and paint (unless somebody out there sees an error in my game plan).

Cheers man!

European or African swallow ?

I knew there would be at least one weirdo out there who appreciated Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail like I do.

Well Sprint, you would be that weirdo! Nice work man!!!:D

No way, she's a svelte all-american girl... :D

Yah, I think so too! Man, you have good eyes seeing what a good looking lady this boat is! Especially since you guys are seeing everything up side down!:D

I know old right.

Lookin good...if you do this right nobody will ever believe that she used to have an enormous white OMC leg hanging off the transom:D

Glad to see you getting to know the wire wheel, I am ready to spend time apart from mine for a while:p

Yah, I am hoping to blend that welded seam in as best I can without compromising the strength.

Yup, the rest of the hull should only require a light sand for the most part! The deck is pretty rough paint wise so we'll see how that goes.

Rock on!

Just make sure you use that etching primer. I was able to find it at Pep Boys reasonably priced.

Got it! Pretty much the only place I could find it was NAPA, I think it was about $7 or so. Not too bad seeing as I only will need to do the transom and the bare spots. Picked up a gallon of Acetone this morning for clean up purposes for the next bit of my life.

I am thinking this scheme right here, without the big swoosh stickers, is really starting to grow on me...

As it stands right now I am thinking just like in that photo, black on white. Blue on white would be a close second.

Cheers!

I'm not sure the black and white is gonna fly with the "new school" look...

...my 4-year-old son just told me that this Islander looks "black and white...like in the old-fashioned days" LOL :D

I show him pictures of starcrafts once in a while and ask him which ones he likes;)
