I have been reading different threads now for some time and finally got my garage clean enough to back up a 15 foot seaswirl tri hull in it. Well, Actually as soon as the garage was clean my wife decided it made a great parking space but i quickly ended that.
So, with all that ugly carpet on the deck the job began by tearing it out. I got all the carpet out,stripped the deck, taken off all components and am about to remove the shell. I have found some major rot in the 1 and only stringer visible at this time. The rot runs the legth of the stringer so I am going to replace the entire stringer.
A few questions I have.
1. There is a drain plug that extends from the shell through the transome and out the back of the boat. How do I remove it? I need it removed in order to remove the shell.
2. After I get the deck off the boat and remove the rotted stringer (hopefully the transome is in good shape but it is too early to tell, with my luck its a goner) What type of material should I use to separate the new stringer from the hull? I hear that you are not suppossed to glass the stringer directly to th bottom of the boat to relieve stress points.
I will have many more questions to come but rebuilding the deck is the first step.
