Ok good, the water was coming out with pressure, I'm not second guessing u but just for reference why does it have to be just below the hole?

i was just using that hole as a good safe spot to have the water height, it has nothing to do with the actual hole. but the impeller needs to be submerged when barrel running, and i cant see how it could be with your barrel that low even with the barrel full to overflowing.
