i just got a 2 hp 79' johnson from my uncle and it has a faint surge through the spark plug wire. but when i put a plug in it i get no spark at all.. any ideas?
I reckon you will have to remove the flywheel (harmonic balance puller required for that) Check the breaker points, inspect the coil and suspect the condenser. problem could be any one of those.
You risk damaging the flywheel if you try anything else. It bolts on using high tensile bolts into those taped holes you see. You should be able to hire one from a tool hire shop.
The flywheel is on a taper on the crankshaft thats why you need a puller. There's a key to look out for too.
