Re: 1975 Ebko Trihull complete rebuild

Here I am about in the middle of ripping the foam out. The majority of the right side of the boat out and I am working on the left here ( I need to get better at the whole nautical terms)

Here I got all the stingers out and up a bit.

Next it will be time to start grinding everything out and repair the hole in the hull that started this all.

Have you ever wondered how much stuff can come out of a 1975 15' Ebko Trihull? Well it is just about a truck full along with an estimated 3 - 4 hundred lbs worth of crap.

Well I probably won't be doing much the next few weekends on the boat until I get it moved into its home for the winter. I had to get the floor out in order to turn it on its side so I can get it in the shed. After that I will grind everything down for the first time and start working on patching that hole. I am considering a foot locker for things like anchors and other stuff like that and will start looking in to those here. If I do it I think I will build it myself and add foam to the far sides of the boat to make up for the foam I would be taking out. I am leaning toward pour foam again for structural integrity and if I poor it right without gaps like it was the water tight seal for another 20 years or more. First thing is first though, time to do some more iboats reading.

Cool. Ya I'm actually amazed at how similar it is! Very similar construction.

I won't be buying much of anything if it is something I can do myself. I will build it but first have to decide how big and what but that will happen after I get the stringers back in. They will probably be shaped to fit what gear I want down there. Not sure what that will be yet though.

Well the boat is officially moving into it's winter work area after Thanksgiving. First step will be to move it in then build the stand for it so it doesn't role around.

Re: 1975 Ebko Trihull complete rebuild

this is ther very same boat that I have. Although mine didn't have all of the hull issues. I did a poor (or lazy) man's fix on a soft spot that the previous owner used to put a piece of plywood over. When I peeled back the carpet. I revealed a 2'x3' soft spot near the stern. I started cutting and eventually pulled out about half the floor. The foam in mine was closed cell and not soaked...thank the lord, but all three stringers were rotten up to about the front seat. I cut out the rot, replaced what was missing and glassed the loving snot out of it. If I had to make a bet, I would put money on having to replace the whole floor in the next couple of years, but by then I hope I can afford a new boat.

I plan on making this my permanent fishing boat that if I do a good job a boat that my future kids will be able to use. Or at least the boat I let them take out since knowing the kind of kids I will have they will probably sink the sucker lol.

Well I needlessly have to say that I have done nothing with the boat since ripping out the foam. Neighbor is gonna let me put a gate in his fence to work on the boat in the back yard. This will hopefully get me going. Got to have it finished in a year in order to have it ready to be moved back to MN in a year.

I will be making the boat a dedicated fishing boat so what features do you find the most important of a good fishing boat?
