UPDATE: the problem was fixed by replacing the spark plugs!!! Many thanks to everyone for your help and insight.

A new problem occurred which involves surging and dying after running in WOT after about 60 seconds. However, i pumped the primer bulb manually and the problem subsided. Repeated this until I got back to the boat ramp. I suspect either the fuel pump purchased off Amazon is bunk, or the fuel hose I used is too thick and long/bent to deliver fuel properly. I am planning or replacing it with a vacuum hose. Does anyone have any insight as to whether I am on the right track here?

Thank you.

Do not use automotive "vacuum hose". Most of that stuff will not stand gasoline and will turn to mush..

Noted, thank you. Any suggestion on what I should use instead? I'm going to use a different fuel tank and hose as well to test that.

They do have a fuel pump rebuild kits for your motor. A bit of a pain to do, but the kits are available. Certainly test other aspects first. The fuel hose and tank are a good start. Make one change at a time if you want to isolate the ultimate culprit.

When you cleaned the carb did you see a little spring that is used to ensure the inlet valve drops down with the float. Those valves can stick and a sticky inlet valve does tend to stop the fuel from getting to where it needs to be. Just something else to ponder.

read read read again BEFORE going ahead scribe the side with a felt pen or nail to reassemble correctly

I put a drop of crazy glue on the base of the springs to hold it upright as I reassemble the layers

I also glue the mushroom domes in place with crazy glue to hold the in place

smalll parts that fly !! work carefully on a clean surface
