Ok was heading across bay at high speed when all of a sudden motor just lost speed sounds like prop stops spinning. Will go at 5 to 6 mph but when you give throtle gas above that you loose all mph and sounds like prop stops spinning. Any suggestions would help. Again it just happened all of a sudden.

remove the prop and check for a sheared drive pin. If it's intact and the engine's rpm's remain high but your forward progress doesn't, most likely you've spun the hub in the prop.If a sudden bang and jar as if you've hit something underwater precedes this slowing down, it could be "jumping out of gear".

Not jumping out of gear or making noise? Spun prop hub. Absolutely.

But don't take our word for it, check it. Make a mark on the prop nut and another on the propeller itself, and run it till it slips. Stop and look at the marks. If they are no longer aligned, it slipped. If they are aigned, repeat test, there is a slim chance it stopped slipping in the same position.

Okay looks like the prop hub is slipping. Next step do I take a prop this old to get a new hub or do I need to buy a new prop?

Your choice. I guess it is a matter of comparing costs, vs overall condition of the prop. Is it like new or all beat up, or somewhere in between?

You might consider that prop technology has progressed since 75 and if you prop is worn ,they do actually wear with years of use
a new prop may be in order.

be certain to ask "how much"? before leaving it at a prop shop....on the smaller ones the difference between rehubbed and new ain't much, at least not around here
