Love the brace. Will have to do something similar, or even beefier when I put my pod on.

Enjoyed reading through your thread and found the solution for a problem I was facing in my rebuild within your photos.
Your pics showed how your forward raised deck had been fastened down in the curvature of the bow area. Very timely for me, I am working in that area now. Thanks!

I used Klean strip adhesive remover and some paint stripper when I ran out along with a pressure washer to rid my SS of that nasty dried on carpet glue.

What do you mean by noisy vinyl?

Hey Watermann,

We have a real issue here in Canada finding any decent chemicals for removing paint and such. I have seen Aircraft Remover on Amazon that apparently delivers to Canada, but I have not pursued that avenue yet. We have an Acklands Grainger in my city that do carry what I need, but apparently they don't do busy with individual, just companies.

I may just walk in there. They do have a walk in store here.

The noise discussion was brought up by No-ah. He was simply stated that the carpet helps to reduce some of the noise from the tin boats. I an not too concerned by that. My main concern would easy of cleaning, where I think the Nautolex would be better than carpet. Especially for fish blood and guts.

Asking another north of the border guy may get you the info on stripper, dozerII should know what brand works.

The noise, I see ... well sort of ... any sound produced by my boats on the water is beautiful to me. I can't see how a thin layer of carpet on the deck will cut any noise if the thick layer of foam board and plywood deck doesn't do it, then I know carpet won't. My boats when underway could make noise but the motors and wind pretty much cancel that out.

Amen to that! I love the sound of the boat crashing through the water and rumble of the motor as you cruise by the scenery. Looking forward to getting this done, but maintaining a realistic view of how long it will actually take.

BTW the photos you took on the water the other day were excellent. Must be nice to live somewhere warm. I don't think a lot of lakes are even clear of ice yet in Canada.

If you don't have too much stripping of glue... I went to napa and they have an aerosol can of paint stripper that worked the absolute best. Spray it on and wait a few minutes then scrap it off with a plastic paint scraper. Definitely recommend it.

Hey WJ91,

My next door neighbour came over with an old can of adhesive remover that he had in his garage forever. It was so old it still had a Beaver Lumber sticker on it......

However that stuff worked great. I have to post some shots of that as well.

Very close to starting the paint striping. Likely this weekend, I want to make sure I do this right as the striper costs 120.00 a gallon. BWR1953 indicated that he went through 4 can of the stuff!!! I am wondering if he did the initial surface sanding with 80 grit sandpaper as indicated in the directions?? Have to ask him.

Nope, I did no sanding prior to using the stripper. The directions on the stuff I used didn't call for such.

Ouch! $120/gal is expensive! Maybe because you're in Canada? Wowsers.

I paid $26USD per gallon for the first couple of cans but they weren't as "hot" as the others and didn't work well. Once I switched to the "hotter" stripper :)D) the price went up. Natch! ;)

Hey BWR!

Ya I was reading the instructions on mine, and it indicated to do a rough sanding with 80 grit sandpaper in order to get the desired penetration of the paint remover

I wish I could get it for cheaper than that, but there are few places in Canada to get good aircraft stripper. I am hoping to get by with 2. My plan is to experiment with one of the consoles to gauge how much sanding I have to do in advance. The only thing is that the hull paint appears to be much thicker and harder.

What type of filter were you using on your mask? I am thinking that the standard paint filter may not be strong enough to handle the fumes from this stuff.

Here are some pics of the adhesive removal. It was an ancient can from my neighbour bought from a store that no longer exists in Canada. This weekend I will be experimenting with the paint remover. The stuff is super expensive, so I want to make sure that I get the most out of it.

WJ91, I didn't have time to take pics of the 3D crests today. Hopefully I will have them for you this weekend.

Yeah, that stuff is strong! We used the cheap disposable respirators like so:

Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since my last post, but I have been busy and taking photos along the way. First off, most of the interior of the boat has been stripped of paint. I will post some pictures later. I did not strip all of the interior as some areas will not be visible once all the deck work goes in. Paint stripper is expensive and I did not feel like wasting money on something that would not be seen.

I had a hard time finding a good stripper and then Dozer recommend an aircraft stripper. The problem with the aircraft stripper was it was 120.00 Cdn per gallon. I have subsequently found another stripper that is 38.00 Cdn per gallon that works as good as the aircraft stripper. Photos below.

Wow, that seems to be working great for you at a nice cost savings! :thumb:
Ya and those respirators are a must and will be useful throughout the various stages of these re-dos.
Keep up the great work M8!
