Hi Everyone,
A neighbor has a 1974 Merc 40 hp that was sitting for 2 years. We got it running, and it ran for 1 short ride. On the 2nd ride I had to squeeze the primer bulb to keep it running to get back to the dock. I put in a new fuel pump kit, and that solved the problem of having to squeeze the primer bulb to keep it running, but now it dies after running a few minutes, and you have to choke it to get it running again, and use the fast idle lever to keep it going, and then it dies like it runs out of gas. It has fresh gas that was put in an empty tank. I'm thinking carb problems from sitting? Any help would be appreciated.
