1974/757HA 75hp Chrysler OB Plug wires

First of all this is the first time posting on this site. But would like to say that I've sort-of just been in the shadows,anyway this site is very helpful. Problem: I just bought this motor and I'm in the process of trying to start it and I've done pretty much everything that I have picked up on this site. I noticed that the plug wire on mine are cut on one end &thats the part that does not look right. The wires go thru the cap and to me they are supposed to make contact with the terminals that have the copper tabs on the underside. It's like there are 6 points of contact 3 have the copper tabs that I guess the rotor hits? And 3 have no tabs; it's these 3 that the wire hit now is that right? Please help thaNK YOU-all.

The distributor cap is actually a 3 part unit. the cover has the wires passing through it, then the wires pass through a rubber membrane which is clamped between the two halves of the cover. This rubber also keeps the wires from pulling out. Typically, you push the wires through enough so that when the distributor cap is fully assembled, the wires are forced onto brass prongs or points in the lower part of the cap.

Since the cover is held to the lower part by two screws on either side of the coil wire, you really need to try in order to assemble it incorrectly.

The wires go onto the points that DO NOT have the copper flashing inside the distributor cap. I'm not sure, but I think the copper flashing is part of the explosion proof design of the dist. cap.

ok I'll take your word for it . It just seems that the wires should hit the point that have the copper tabs. I guess it is different from a car motor where the rotor makes contact with the prong on the underside. Well thanks let me assemble the cap and wires back and try it.
