Nicely done budski! I sent Taylor Made a month or so ago, some dimensions and a few pics [they required] for a quote to have a new replacement fish n ski ws made for my holi. Upwards of $3000 it was....as much as it would've looked great, the Admiral suggested I "lip stick and mascara" the original before re-installing. So I did.

Looking good! Is that a speaker under the console, or an access hatch?

Looking good John, I have a question, whats the plan for mounting the controls? I see the side panel is low all the way to the console.

Hey Rob, the controls were originally mounted directly to the side of the gunnel, I don't like that I think that's to high up, so I'm going to fabricate a plate that will attach to the side of the gunnel down to the side panel and mount the controls between there.

I'll tell ya I just love LOVE 95% of the work you guys do on your restores but man I just can not get on board with the carpet on the top of the gunnels and consoles. Seems like it would just get super nasty quick and end up looking ratty while everything else is mint. :embarassed:

I'm planning on nautolex for the gunnels on my 16SS. Just might be a few years before I get to that point:)

Ah OK, I guess I didn't notice before that it was a separate section between the gunnel and side tray. I have that issue to look forward to soon. The V5 controls weren't mounted to the gunnel, they're on the side panel. I was thinking about how to do the control mounting without there being that side tray, the V5 doesn't have one of those full length trays.

Yes Rob I remember that now that you mentioned it, you're probably right mn and ez, I guess the reason we use carpet is that the tops of the gunnels are usually so badly damaged holes etc; and carpet does a good job of covering that up, as far as the consoles most of the new boats built nowadays have carpet on them and we try to modernize our rebuilds as much as possible. Got the stereo and enclosure and a couple of 12V sockets installed.

Nice clean look budski! Is the steering column a push/pull tilt style? I am pondering replacing mine with this type on the holi.

I hear ya. I think Nautolex might accomplish the same thing and hold up better. Most of the new ones seems to be custom-fabbing plastic consoles. It'd be tough to recreate something like that DIY unless you were super skilled with fiberglass or were able to find some overstock OEM ones at Great Lake Skipper or something.

Certainly not knocking your rebuild, just an interesting topic for discussion since we all have struggled to figure out what do with our old tiny (often filled with holes) aluminum consoles.

Looks like a standard helm to me. The tilt wheel helm costs almost 200 more which to me is not worth it.

Good quality carpet will last if taken care of and makes the boat super quiet but can be stained and turned ratty real quick by someone who doesn't care for their boat.

Yes it is a standard helm, I had a tilt one on my Starfire 19 usually stayed in one position anyway I and found it a little harder steering, the carpet is good quality marine, and I'm pretty picky about it so it stays in pretty good condition, but I can see where it could get pretty ratty if someone wasn't care full with it. and yes nautolex would accomplish the same thing but I find it harder to wok with especially around edges and corners, and it's about twice the price of marine carpet and you need some pretty long length's for the gunnels.
