Sounds like a great way to spend the holiday weekend.

Congrats on picking a name.

Thanks, jb. Asked the Admiral late this afternoon what she wanted to do during this holiday and SHE suggested staying around the house and working on the boat. Have an RC model aircraft dawn patrol breakfast on Labor Day but that's it as far as plans. My kind of relaxed weekend. Hope yours in West Virginia is a great weekend, too.

Safe boating,

Joe

She certainly is, Yeonik. 44 years and still going. Guess I'll have to let her drive the boat from time to time...LOL

And a very nice boat it will be, barato2. Now, if Joy Ride had only been a "lady" today...ended up with a good size chunk of skin taken out of the pad on the second finger, left hand...and a cut on top of the second finger, right hand (I'm typing this with bandaids on both fingers)...and a cut on my right knee. I did get the control box off and the wiring pulled from the box to the stern, and most of the right side panel off before the "red paint" showed up. However, the Admiral came home this evening with a new tarp and bungee cords for the "lady" so we covered her up (rain tonight) and put her to bed. Hope she wakes up in a better mood tomorrow LOL.

Soft landings,

Joe

HA HA! It takes a real man with courage to climb aboard that boat again..LOL

Good news mates, the Admiral surprised me today with a nice Canon camera to use for boat shots. So, once I get it figured out (she said I best read the manual) I'll try and get some pics up for you showing the progress. What a woman!!

Got back to work on the boat this afternoon and finished pulling the starboard inside panel off the boat. Removed the "cloth" from both port and starboard inside areas and that left a big glue mess on both sides; after all these years the glue was still tacky. Removed LOTS of screws and ten rivets from under the rear splashpan and lower inside transom. Hope to get the splashpan out tomorrow and then pull the transom wood. Took a few photos along the way to share with you.

Safe boating,

Joe

I don't know if pull will be the right word for the transom. It looks more like sweep or vacuum that mulch.

We were up near you a couple weeks ago.

Forgot to stop in Karlin an pick up some double smoked bacon.:grumpy:

Hey Joe - Did you really need all those tools? 64 called it with using the vacuum. Wonder if that stuff is good for the garden?

Thanks for stopping by folks. 64osby, I plan on using the vacuum today and getting rid of the "mulch" and those critters I saw lurking in dark places while my head was under the splashpan. BlueFin16, you hit it right...this is fun; something I am really enjoying. Course, that may change when it comes time to put all the pieces back together LOL. GA_Boater, I sure have used the drill and the new tool carrier is the best thing since sliced bread. Sure saves a lot of sorting around for the right tool in a conventional tool box. Good thing you didn't see the other tools laying about...you know, the ones you climb out of the boat for, and then discover that you need something else after getting back into the boat LOL.

Question:

Does anyone have the center swing section window for this SS model that they would like to sell? I'd like to add it to the boat...ah, to help keep the Admiral's hair in place,...and...

oh yeah, we all know THOSE tools. one more nice thing about boat resto is you get lots of practice embarking and disembarking so you can look all graceful like when you finally get to the local ramp.....

you may have to buy a whole windshield for that, but it needn't be from a SC. Taylor or somebody makes most of the windshields for all makes of boat. any possibility you could fab one from Lexan and Al channel?

Piper, there was a guy on Craigslist Detroit who is parting out his holiday.. Scrapped the hull. When I get back to a real computer ill see if I can dig it up. This is assuming that the walkthrough on the holiday is the same as the super sport. I can always measure mine to be sure if you need.

I'm in the same boat for my 18' SS. I did receive a donation from a newer SFM however I would jump on an 18' SS full windshield in a heartbeat. got my eye on one now.

I bought a walkthrough from an 18' Holiday that doesn't fit my 18' SS (that error set me back a c-spot ); too small. It may fit the opening for a 16' SS :noidea:

Thanks for the comments, guys. Hadn't given any thought to fabricating a window but it should not be rocket science. That may be the best way to go short of "stumbling" across the exact item. Sure do appreciate all the ideas offered as this is what makes the forum/thread enjoyable.

Joe--in the extruded-alum section of your local Lowes etc they will have U-channel. it's about 1/2" deep x maybe 5/16" wide inside the "U". this looks like it might be almost ideal for windshield frame.

1978 22ft starcraft windshield

I was under the impression that it was an 18', dunno where I got all that from. May not even be a walk-through. Worth a call tho I suppose =\

oh durf, let's edit this post...

I suppose I thought for some reason that the above was this guy ;p
