also took a page out of jasoutsides book and cut up an old ladder to make some extra bracing on the stringers down the middle. i riveted one in every other rib making sure to miss the area where my tabs of decking will go. really firmed up the decking stringers. thanks jas!

Nice work there CC. JB Weld is best sanded right after it turns hard, like 2 hours after it's applied. After that I've had to use belt sanders with 60 grit to even touch it. That's why I went to marine tex for the pitting on the transom skin, "strong as steel sands like wood" is their catch phrase. If the wood is 150 year old black walnut maybe then MT sands like wood but it's still way easier to work with than JB or quick metal.

I used the belt sander to knock the JB down close, being careful not to eat into the aluminum and then went on to using a palm sander with 80 or 120 grit.

thanks watermann. yeah thinking i am going to have a bit of a pita withit as i put it on 2 weeks ago. and it is rock hard now! better try the belt sander as i assume the longer i wait the tougher it will be.

used the belt sander to get it knocked down close and will have some serious sanding next spring to smooth out. then got it turtled for its long winter nap here in northern mn. and will spend the winter months on the trailer. (whoohoo)

what are you peoples thoughts on this trailer. do i leave those rollerers on rear end. or get rid of them and extend the bunks. have heard that those rollers can be hard on aluminum boat. they are really only for trailering the boat and then the major weight is on bunks with just lightly sitting on rear rollers. thoughts?

Hey that is a very interesting trailer set up, a hybrid roller and bunk trailer. Actually when all set up, the stern of the boat has the majority of the trailering weight, motor, fuel and batteries. The way it's set up with the rollers lightly touching the hull then the bunks are set too high, leaving the heavy stern to cause stress at the end of the bunk. My thought would be to remove the roller assembly and just get another set of supports, then bunk the whole length and leave only those keel rollers up front.

I've got that exact trailer, when I get the boat back on it, I'm going to make sure the transom is right on top of the last roller.

got an oppertunity on c list to buy a 17ft silverline glasser , trailer, and a 115 v4 johnson with tilt and trim for about 400.00 bucks. gonna need power for this restore eventually. says it is about 1985 model . anybody know if that would be oil injected or would i be back to mixing fuel and oil. anybody got any good or bad advice or thoughts on that engine for my 18 ft ss. thanks

That would be a great choice for you SS, Even if it was VRO I would convert it to premix. There were far to many problems with the OMC oil injection to trust it. Just my opinion. The V4 is a great motor that will last a long time if looked after and has awesome parts support. Just make sure it is post 1978 for the newer style TNT.

thanks doz, good advice on the tilt / trim. so if i read you right you are saying to premix the oil and fuel and forgo the injection because of issues? if so how do i go about that?

aqlso where do i find the numbers on the motor to determine year and shaft length. i know the codes from johnson but do not know where to look

There will be a tag on the port side of the mount that will give you the serial and model #, from there you can do a google search for model info. Model Number Look-up: Evinrude Johnson OMC BRP outboard engines. In the iboats Johnson/Evinrude section there is a sticky at the top that gives you all the instructions to disable the VRO

K, what i am looking at is a model #115EL775 serial# J4770456 but am having trouble finding it to match anything from the johnson model number page i have been referencing which is same as the one doz suggests. any help figuring the year out would be greatly appreciated.

That's correct, If it is a 77 it is the one that Watermann posted and that is the old style trim/tilt, if it is in good working order and doesn't need parts you may be okay, if not get out the wallet. An unknown used replacement will run you $6 to $9 hundred bucks.

thanks guys, pretty well sums it up as a 1977 with old style tnt. appreciate the input. i have not purchased it yet and now not sure it is what i want,after posting on here. i am very happy you all chimed in for me tho, as owner thought it was a 1985 to 1989 model and thanks to the help i found here we now know that is not true. thinking i may hold out for something like it but a bit newer. what do you all think

I have a 1977 Johnson on my Sea Nymph, very good motor. I put a CnC TnT on it tho, way better unit than stock that's for sure. I spent 600 on it.
