OK, I stand corrected on the availability of quality plywood.

I also agree that if the OP wants to bring the free for the hauling, 1973 trihull back to showroom condition then a minimum of $600 to 800 must be spent. :)

RR is 100% correct about both the PT and the underlayment. The new Arauco Plywood also has no voids, is a 7ply plywood, stays warp free and uses 100% waterproof glue as well. 42 bucks a sheet. IMHO there are no shortcuts when it comes to doing it right and safety of construction. The minimum I see to fix this boat, The RIGHT way is 6 -8 hundred bucks

that would be nice, but in my own experience it will be closer to 1500...my boat is a 15 foot tri-hull that I hoped was in better shape, I have put 800 into it so far and have yet to do the fiberglass....i expect 600 in fiberglass still, and then of course another 1000 in fun gadgets! If your motor runs, you will be in a lot better shape than you were at the start of this thread, but expect to pay a good amount getting it lake ready!

Ok. I take the advise except, I have been obsessed with running the motor first, I fixed a few chewed wires. Let the pistons soak in oil drains the carb. Plugs, turned it over maybe 5 seconds, againg ten, then it ran for abort 4 seconds. Then starter starter started draging. Tested all wires and connections with a ohm meter so took it apart, and put it back on 10 Times with no luck, giving up, calling a repair sgop to look for help with the starter, I really don't want a new one, but I can't find anything, at any parts store to keep the starter suply post from grounding itself out. Rubber melted..... But.. it does seem like it will run.

Thats a good sign that it wanted to start.....do you have a starter/generator shop near by....I bet they could rebuild that starter.

Re: 1973 sport craft tri hull help

MikeHoncho, you said you were short of funds and now your talking about putting money into a starter. You may not need to yet and you still don't know if the motor is worth it. Most motors I've seen have a notch in a pully on top of the flywheel where you put the knotted end of a rope and wrap the rope around the flywheel to pull start it. If the motor is primed and getting spark it will start in one or two pulls. If it doesn't then cranking away at the starter motor till things melt will not help.

You have confirmed the motor will fire. OK stop. Next you need to flush the fuel lines and give it fresh fuel, Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and pump new fuel till it comes out clean. Then reattach it to the carb. (you are using the correct fuel mixed with oil I hope or is the motor a 4 stroke?) Now would be a good time to find the model # and serial # of that motor and share it with us. Rather than pull your arm off prime the cylinders with a little fuel before pull starting. Putting the plugs back in finger tight will not hurt for a short test. Pump the primer bulb till hard and try to start the motor.

You don't have to do it this way and many will insist you Must replace all fuel lines, filter etc. and completely rebuild the carb with a new kit but I'm trying to keep you from spending money except where and until needed and worthwhile.

I forgot to add, get the bottom end of that motor in a tub of water.

Ok. Thank you for the advise. But there is so much compression, I cannot get a full rotation out with the rope. And the rebuild kit is 18.99 a from a guy here in town. It's well worth it, and will have to be bought eventually any how. Today, I spent cleaning the garage and re positioning everthing. Tomorrow, post starter, I plan on finishing pulling the stringers, J90TLCNB IS MODEL NUMBER J5687007 is serial number... Any general knowledge or things to look for?

1982 Johnson 90HP. Heck of a motor. Mine is an '81 Evinrude 90, same motor. Biggest improvement I've noticed over the older 70's motors is the primer circuit as opposed to a choke. Cold starts are much much faster. I get 40MPH out of mine on my 18' hull.

If I hook a water hose up to the hook up on The bottom of the motor. Do I still need itin a tub?

No. If you have the muffs (flusher) attachment properly positioned, you won't need a tub. In fact it's tough to run this motors in a tub because they have to be submerged deeper than you think. Just covering the intakes with water is not enough. The pump needs to be submerged and it is located on the top of the lower unit. So you really gotta get it in deep. Muffs are fine. Don't rev it up too much though on muffs.

Haven't been on in a while, update, hull is empty, waiting on money to fix motor has ran for about a minute, without throttle control, I can't really run it more than that, so waiting on cash is where we are at. I still appreciate all posts replys and comments.
