1973 Evinrude 115 HP lower unit compatibility question

Howdy all, I have a 1973 115 hp Evinrude with a toasted lower unit. Will a lower from a 1978 85 hp fit? Thanks for any info. Better days are coming. Thanks

A 78 will bolt on but it will not shift right !-------Yours shifts to FORWARD with a DOWN motion of the shift rod.-----The 78 model lower unit shifts to FORWARD with an UP motion of the shift rod.-----Or you would have to research switching linkages on the motor to compensate.-----Nothing can be switched in the control box.------Your location ??

Thanks sorry for the late reply.Thank You, saved me some work. Another question. Just picked up a Johnson 115 with no Model/serial # tag. Any way to figure out the year? Thanks All be safe..

Hope you can identify from cowl, Thank You. Can not load pictures. Front of cowl reads Sea-Horse MagFlash CD. Again 115hp. White cowl with red and orange stripe on top side of cowl. Johnson 115.

Model # or pictures needed here.-----Or google -------nymarine----Look at the decals they offer for various years.-----Those decals are correct / spot on for the model years.
