Without seeing a picture I would say they are on the grommet for the water tube that goes to the power head.------These " rubber plugs " keep the grommet in place.

Item # 10 there is one shown in the water pump housing and there is one in the exhaust housing.------The one that goes in the exhaust housing does not appear to be shown.

That doesn't appear to be what w2much is asking. He said "several on the midsection and two on the lower unit". I have no clue. Except he may be seeing the tabs on the grommet where they show through the side. But that isn't "several".

There is one one the mid section and 1 or 2 on the l/u. None are shown on the parts diagrams. Lower unit is now outside in the dark submerged in greasy water or I could
tell you if there were 1 or 2 . There is an older post showing the one on the midsection.

There is a post from 69fastwin Sept 2015 which shows a good picture of the midsection. Halfway up or down the photo you will see what appears to be a round hole. In this hole on my engine is a rubber something or other. There is also one or 2 on the gearcase. Tried to upload photos but it did not work for me.

Haven't seen the picture, but I'm sure you are looking at the "tits" on the water tube grommets number 10 on the gearcase parts picture above. They hold the grommets in place.

Believe I found the thread: http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...win-water-hole

If referring to the drain holes, think there would also be a single one on the l.u. These should be open. (Folks usually complain that unburnt fuel and water is leaking -- what looks like gear oil to them -- so maybe somebody plugged yours for that reason.)

[ed.: btw -- if it is plugged weep/drain holes, you might want to try and pull out the blockages. Maybe it's RTV sealant or something you can get a grip on with a tiny screw.]

No Title

Borrowing the picture suggested by oldboat, here are the holes that MIGHT be in question:

kind of a mixed bag on the leg. may need a pic of your motor when you get to it -- would look for a weep hole in the l.u. too, but think location varies. On the l.u., there are sometimes corrosion issues creating drain holes that that weren't intended -- so could complicate things. Not so much with freshwater motors.
