Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

Nice rig...gotta love a yellow tin Starcraft with a 80hp Merc on the transom:)

I am with the rest of the gang when I say that I thought it was a 'glass rig at first glance myself:D

The windshield makes it look sleeker than a Jupiter but the hull looks very similar. It's a rare bird to say the least, nice score:)

one more thing for those who havent looked hard at the pictures the brown strip down the side is a decal placed where the hull has a indention all the way down the side stamped in the alum.

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

Nice boat and welcome to the club.
Yours would have to rank up there with the three most rare Starcraft models.
Last winter we saw the rare (pre aluminum) galvanized steel Starcraft skiff.
It was built like a tank. Horse trough tank that is.
Next comes the tunnel hull 98 mph glass boat we saw on CL last week.
Now yours, a Starcraft Nova, a name I have never heard of.
The hull looks a holiday but the windshield is totally different.
Good luck with your repairs and if you read the restoration thread
It will give you a firm grip on where to start.

At this rate we may have boats come out of the woodwork for years.

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

I like it! Expecially the top of the T, nice touch.
If the transom leaks it probably means rotten wood, which means weak transom. Be careful, wouldn't want the motor or transom to go bye-bye:eek:

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

I had that motor on my Nassau - 4 cylinder right. That boat should jump like a scalded cat when you punch it. Not to mention anything but several months ago I started a thread wondering if anyone had ever seen a nova...there was an 18' nova with and I/O option too!

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

I agree with Dave, that thing looks sleek. The color sure does look nice with the lines of the boat. Ammo, I'd suggest a good coat of paint on that transom, you know, an ounce of prevention....;)

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

going to wait till this winter when they drop the lake down and replace the wood on the outside , i got a sheet of nylon, like a plastick material used in factorys , i am thinking about using instead of wood?????
then paint everything then.....
Nolin river/lake is a cor. of engeeres flood control lake so the drop it of a winter and raise it back up in the spring got another month or so to have fun....

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

Hi everybody,

I'm new to boating and this forum. I have a 1972 Starcraft Nova, 18 foot, with a 120 mercruiser. I just got it from my father-in-law. It runs, but needs a little work. I am worried about the transom, which has some very soft spots. This is a great forum, definitely lots of info and experience here.

Re: 1972 Starcraft Nova

Welcome captain! Sounds like a cool boat. We'd love to see some pics of it. Start a new thread in Starcraft section so we can check it out.
