1972 Johnson seahorse won't start Help!!!

Hi There<br />I bought a 9.5 1972 Johnson seahorse out board a few weeks ago<br />it started and ran quite well but needed some small work done like a new water pump and such.<br />I did some regular maintainance and saw that it had a crankcase leak so i pulled the crack case off and sealed it up with the proper gasket sealant. <br />now i have the motor back together and it will not run. it starts for 3-5 seconds then dies. <br />the crankcase still has a small leak from what i can see. I am having troubles torqueing down the crankcase and sealing it up with out tightening it up so tight that you can not turn it over.<br />I don't think it is the fuel pump but am not sure.<br />I can not find a new fuel pump but have lots of spare parts but don't know how they go together<br />Please help<br />Jon

What happens if you continue to pump the primer bulb after starting, Jon?<br /><br />Sounds like she is running out of fuel. That could be the fuel pump, air leak in the fuel supply lines or restriction in the fuel lines.<br /><br />It could also be your starting technique. Do you keep the choke closed or partially closed while she gets started?

I am going to try replacing the fuel pump and give that a go<br />it seems to keep running longer if i am pumping the primer bulb<br /><br />Jon
