Does the cam follower roll as you give it throttle.Mine does not .i have ordered a new cam follower and o ring

It should. Did you try cleaning out the old Grease(it is close to 55 yrs old), and applying fresh stuff?

No I did not but I will .It is the short shaft with recoil and electric start 1972 model
