Well lets try this again I tried to make one post that was fairly long but wouldn't go up so i'll keep this one short and sweet. Got out my uncles and dads 72' glastron with a 65 horse merc. was in storage for 2 years in a shed, farmer pulled it out to get to his machinery and never put it back in so 3 years uncovered in wisconsin weather. Lost cause? cleaned the boat looks nice..I know nothing of boats so im a complete newbie at this. my uncle used to do all the maintinance on it but he died a few years ago so im wondering what i have to look for. the floor in between the driver/passenger seats is weak other than that it looks pretty good to me i guess. Open for suggestions and do's/dont's. Will post pictures soon

Re: 1972 Glastron Sportster

Welcome to iboats.

3 years in the open weather was probably not too healthy for the boat but it may be very well on it's way.

Did the water that accumulated get a chance to drain out of the hull? That would be my first concern if it caused any rot to the stringers or deck.

The outboard is probably fine. There is a great write up for waking up that motor here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086

Read through the restoration forums about bore holes and checking for rot.

O young Jedi, much to learn you do, yes. Welcome to iboats !!!

Looks are very deceptive on a boat, you already know that the deck (floor) needs repair but you also need to check the stringers below & transom for rot.

The transom is the area the motor hangs from ( from the top of the boat where the top of the mount sits on, all the way down to the drain plug, and from the left to the right of the boat.

The stringers are the support for the floor, and added strength for the hull. If they are rotten, then you will have a boat that will be subject to stress damage if they are weakened. They run the length of the hull, from the transom to just under the bow ( front of the boat ) where the hull starts to slope.

After noon gentalman, I'm just getting started on what i believe is a 75 glastron, already have it separated. But ive noticed that most of yall keep stating how the company did a crappy job building the boat originally, ive taken a look at mine, and yes it has wood rot, and ive already taken out the main floor and stingers, but not sure if ill get crazy with alot, as long as the wood look good ill clean it up and replace whats nessisary, but have learned alot so far thanks.

Welcome teeker and good luck. You will need to inspect the deck and transom thoroughly. This can be fun and the work will be worth it. Good luck and post lots of pics.

Well, we can figure out the year of the boat one of two ways, by the VIN, or match the original colors to the Glastron catalogs on classicglastrons.com.

Mine is a 75, you can see the production quality in my early photos. They certainly weren't worried about the quality of the glass work where you wouldn't see it, that's for sure.

Well for one there is no vin or bin if you will on mine havent looked ont he engine, but can't find anything even resembling a vin on the boat itself. I figured it out to be one by some registration numbers on it and pics i found.

Re: 1972 Glastron Sportster

if it's a 75, the HIN ( hull identification number ) is on the starboard side of the transom below the rub rail on the boat itself, it'll have been molded into the hull during the hull layup. It looks like it was stamped into the boat.
