hi guys. So I recently tried my 9.5 evinrude on my 74 sears 12ft I just bought and if you watch the video I attached you will see lots of water coming up from the sides of the boat and hitting the wheel. I know this shouldn’t be happening though and it is getting all inside the boat. My question is what can possibly be causing the water to come up like that I’ve never seen this in any of my other outboards.

If the transom is 15" high , a standard 15" ( short shaft ) motor does the trick.-----But try raising the motor 1/2" to see if spray is reduced.

9822 left the factory as a short shaft. But that doesn't mean a hill of beans. It may have been converted to a 9823 (long shaft). You can tell the difference with just a quick glance. Does it have a 5" extension piece (# 62) above the lower unit gearcase (#14)?

What other motors have you tried on that boat. What is the max rating of the boat? I think it looks like your boat is overpowered. It probably has like a 7.5 hp max on it.

Oldboat1 no when I took it out before I noticed the same thing with the same motor before I put the transport wheels on.

I will measure the transom length again and report back with that to make sure everything checks out as far as the length goes.

Transom looks to be 15 inches that’s why I’m puzzled here.

I’m assuming I need to raise the motor like you stated earlier because the Anti-ventilation plate seems to be below the bottom of the boat

You could raise it 1/4" at a time and test run.----Some will argue , but that would be my approach.
