1972 evinrude 125Hp water pump question

just bought a new water impeller for my tune-up and see alot of people telling others to get a water pump kit but i can not find the whole thing anywhere just the impeller is this still ok to just change the impeller without everything else?

The kit includes the impeller housing. If your impeller housing is in good condition with no cracks or other problems then it is ok to just replace the impeller...

Did you mean 1972? The kit for the 1972 125HP is part #0384465 see ishopmarine.com or sea-way.com.

yes i did mean t1972 ty. and i have not takin it apart yet to inspect the housing so i will know that soon then, any thing else? i wish i would have know about that part before i orderd. :(

Typically, under normal use, the impeller is all that needs to be replaced. If the powerhead was overheated, it is possible the plastic housing is deformed-then you need the whole kit. If the engine was used around shallow, sandy areas-sand can get sucked up into the impeller housing. If so, the sand may cut ridges into the stainless steel cup inside the housing. Check it-if it looks smooth, reuse it, if gouged-replace it (it's part of the whole housing kit assy.)
