I took my boat out Sunday and it ran great for about fifteen minutes. I shut it off while parked in a cove. Went to go out again and it would not run. Ran like it was hitting on one or two cylinders and then quit completely. I have no fire at any plug. Checked for fire at coil and have none. Please help.

Do you have a factory manual to trouble shoot your engine? Could be points, coil, dist cap, rotor, amplifier or dirty or corroded electrical connections. The manual will guide you through the process of finding your problem. It would be a good investment if you plan to maintain your engine.

Re: 1972 85hp Johnson NO FIRE

ok, so i did some troubleshooting today. I started with voltage drop test while cranking. My amp supply voltage does not drop below 9.5vdc while cranking. I then checked my amp supply voltage to ign coil. my manual says i should see atleast 250vdc at the blue coil supply. I had 1.5vdc while cranking. I assume that means my power pack "aka" amp is defective. i even went as far as verifying my point break at the point signal wire. i did this by removing the spark plugs, then hooking one lead of my 12vdc test light to the batter cable on the starter solenoid. the other end i hooked to my point signal wire. i then turned the flywheel and my light went out every time my points broke. i then ohm'ed out the ign coil. it tested good. evrything at this point is pointing to a defective power pack. if there is something i missed please let me know. does any one know where to get a power pack at a good price? any help will be appreciated
