I have a 1972 Johnson 25 hp. I am trying to replace the water pump like I have done before on a similar engine. I have unbolten both parts of the lower unit and taken the side plate off in order to get to the linkage. Inside there are two flathead screws. I have loosened both of them and it still does not want to budge. Do i need to take something else off down by the prop. There are 6 screws going into the bottom of the prop and one that goes through the side of the very bottom by the lower unit. I have sprayed the linkage with PBblaster and will let it set over night.

6 bolts, and shift connector is all there is. may have to spread the shift rod connect to get rod out. if it has not dropped at all, the drive shaft could be rusted into the crank shaft.

Thank you for the reassurance that there were only those 6 bolts. After telling me that I went and applied a little more force using two pry bars, and come to find out it was the crank shaft that was stuck. After several years of never being taken apart it must have siezed together, and with a little persuasion it came apart. I do aprreciate the help!

Only the bottom screw on the shift linkage need to come off , not just loose.
the shaft is notched where the bolt goes thru it.
