1971 johnson no spark

Hello I have 71 johnson 60 hp with the electric shift.....when i bought it the amplifier had been robbed off of it so i bought a new to me one.....had great spark for a minute then it quit.....if i disconnect the lead from the breaker plate and tap it it sparks like mad....i cleaned the points but manually opening and closing them doesn't give me spark.....please advise

Test for spark with the distributor assembled and flywheel on.

Check the stator for the ohm reading. Replace timer base as well as the rotor, they go hand in hand. As well as the plug coils.

The stator charges the battery.----The stator is not involved in making spark on this machine.
