Hi
My engine starts well but once running al of a sudden it dies. I am able to start it a couple of minutes later. I am wondering if it could have anything to do with my slow speed adjustments. I have tested my gas lines...they are ok.. can somebody help:eek:

You need to check it as soon as it stalls, are you loosing spark?

lets start from the top. Do you have a good hot spark? Check the compression, is it within spects? Is motor getting sufficient fuel? Is fuel fresh and mixed properly? post back results.

Weak ignition components tend to fail once the engine heats up to normal operating temps. Use an inductive timing light to check for spark to each plugwire when the engine is warmed up.

johnson v4 125 1971 water went into gas tank--- I need pointers

:)johnson 125 v4
Today I discovered water was going into my gaz tank ,,,, the seal on gaz tank which is situated on the hood was misplaced and the rain came in... I removed my tank and will dry it... What about the gas in the carb,... if there is water in it... what should I do ... or will it dissapear once I start it up with new gas....
I would also like to know if the water problem could have caused the boat to suddenly die when running and re-start a couple of minutes after.....

should I do anything with the carb to remove any water residues...

please help
thanks
Marc

You need eliminate the water issue before you work on any other issues. Drain the tank and refill. I'd also pull the drain plugs out of one side of both carb bowls and drain the fuel out of the bowls. Start with fresh fuel and go from there. Water sits at the bottom of the tank, where the fuel pickup is. The water level in a tank will vary, depening on the position of the tank. When the boat is floating at idle-the tank may be level. When on plane, the tank may be tilted as the bow raises. This can change in attitude of the tank can affect how much water gets sucked up by the fuel pickup.
