Frustratedboater you need to change the range to a higher scale than your lowest 400 Ohm.
The secondary winding has a higher resistance than 400 Ohm!
At least 10-15 or 20 times higher than 400 Ohm.

I just did this exact same thing with my digital. I couldn't get any ohms reading off the 2ndary coil. I had to adjust the range, just click through each range, and see what hits. I think it was the 20k range worked. Once that worked it made sense too, since the readings were 4,000 ohms. The ranges and why the meter is marked 200 2k 20k 200k, for ranges still makes little sense to me, but it seems to work. I think it is more about the zeros than the 2s.

A proper test is done on a MERC-O-TRONIC magneto analyzer.-----I never check for ohms on coils.------If spark does not jump a 1/4" gap or more replace them.----If coils are cracked , replace them.
