Very clean and great looking paint job! That color really stands out quite nicely. I also love the job that you are doing with the engine. Looks great!

Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

I liked the way that Bondo had painted his engine on his Starcraft So I decided I would go that route except with a different color. Something loud and bright.

LIME GREEN

Ayuh,... Ya got yer Wish,.... It's plenty Loud, 'n surely Bright....

Oil leaks will be Super Easy to find,..... :D :D

Hmmmm,... Maybe the next 1 down the line, I'll use the hull matching turquoise color for the block....
The 400 is already Maxidyne Gold,...
I've got a 383 comin' up,....;)

My Buddy, Bob, has 3 Purple 454s in his Scarab,...
He calls it something else, but it's Purple.....:D

I was still pretty bored at work after spraying the heads so during my lunch break I ran home and grabbed the carb that I recently acquired and tore it down. I ran it through the cleaner real quick and taped it up. I will be putting the rebuild kit to it pretty quick. I don't know about you but Ive never seen a lime green Quadrajet before...

Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

I have painstakingly wire wheeled every external bolt for this engine and painted them black. Even the linkage rods and screws for the carb. Keep in mind that I wouldn't be giving this kind of detail to the engine if it weren't so darn cold out. I started a new shift at work this year, and I am working 2nd shift 1630-0100 and its not very bust during those hours so I have time to kill on some days doing little things like this just to keep my brain occupied.

I am degreasing my engine right now. The best degreaser I have found is cans of oven cleaner that you can by at the Dollar Tree. It comes in a yellow can and the smell of it makes you gag, but my oh my does it remove the grease, usually in one coat...

Looks great, my only question is what color is the outdrive gonna be?:D

BTW is that a 21' Chieftain? I'm looking at an outboard model, a '72. Love that style of cuddy.

Oven cleaner rocks. After you wash it off it starts to rust quick though. Do not use it on aluminum if you want the color to remain, it turns it dark. Thats what I heard not like I did it, much.

Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

I finished degreasing the engine and sprayed a coat of green. I had the engine turned upside down with the oil pan in place when I sprayed so not get any paint in the bottom end. I am going to put one more coat on in the morning and call this one done...

GHOST BUSTER GREEN!!!!! WOW!

You sure you haven't considered painting the hull that same color? We would surely know it was you coming across the lake!

Excellent engine work man:)

Its getting greener.

Today I unwrapped the engine to check out the paint. I painted the oil pan, timing chain cover, harmonic balancer and the lower pulley. I also ran a tap through every bolt hole on the block to clean out the threads.

Re: 1969 Starcraft Chieftain Restoration

Today during my lunch break I managed to clean up my alternator, power steering pump brackets and the water pump pulley using a bead blasting cabinet.

I painted the brackets black and I didnt bring the green paint with me for the pulley.

Tonight when I got home I walked in the garage and sat a box of parts down on my work table. In doing so I knocked 2 of my pistons off the table breaking the skirt off of one and gouging the other one near the ring gap. After I swore and cursed the powers that be for awhile I calmed down and started looking for a new set of pistons. I found a set of Sealed Power pistons at Auto Zone for less than 100 bucks. I have the equipment at work to press the old pistons off and heat up the rods to put the new ones on. This will give me a chance to balance the rods and make for a super smooth running engine.

If anyone is interested on how to do that I will take pics and show you how its done...
