I've recently picked up a '69 johnson 25 that wasn't peeing or shooting alot of water out. I put new impeller in, other gaskets here and there, re-torqued everything, and guess what? It starts and run! Water pump is working, my only question is, after I get it started and warmed up, and I go to drive off, it kind of shutters, and then once it gets past that part, it FLIES! I've got a carb rebuild kit minus needle valve that I have not put in yet, I also pulled the fuel pump apart and the screen is just in a real poor shape. So Iordered a new screen and gasket. Anyone have any other ideas to check? Like I said, its that transition from low speed to high speed that it shutters, and after that it flat out moves.

thanks

Well it could be timing. The throttle cam exponentially increases then is flat for 1/4 inch at WOT. It was a change that may have started that year. Your motor may not be in sync until it reaches the very end of the throttle cam
