Great build! Just got caught up. The coosa stuff is interesting and that dash looks amazing. Will be a well earned splash!
Thanks, That was my first time doing anything like that with the dash. Time will tell if it holds up to the elements or not.

Video link from the other night. Fired the engine after some more work on the carb. I got it to run pretty good but its not perfect and starts to miss here and there. The Carb is pretty worn out after all these years and I think I am getting a vacuum leak around the choke plate shaft. its pretty sloppy and is making it almost impossible to tune. I plan to replace it with a new one when I replenish my boat bucks account.

Today was a really productive day, I was able to tie up a bunch of loose ends. I am still waiting on some parts to freshen up the outdrive.

Also a bit of advise for anyone that removes their windshield. There is a mounting bolt behind the shift lever and it is almost impossible to put back on with the side panels in place. I really wish I would have done that at that time.

I was originally planning to have all of the cleats and misc. parts rechromed but I have decided to have them ceramic coated instead. I have a friend that does it on the side and I have been pretty impressed with the stuff he has done in the past. Going with this shimmer aluminum color, its not chrome but I think it will look good.

Thanks Watermann, I normally upload from my computer but its acting up today. I want to see some new color on it but I'm dying to get in the lake as soon as possible. I am only 1 year behind on this project and that pretty good for me.

Nice job. Neat to see original pieces and styles. I'm afraid my 1968 Holy was heavily modified before I purchased it.
Although it made further modifications easier to do.

So this boat here was a big inspiration for me when I first started this project. I was just scanning marketplace and what do you know. I never imagined I would see this one up for sale.

So I noticed the fuel in the carb had a dark orange tint to it, I pulled the carb apart and there was a bunch of white junk in the filter. I cleaned everything out and put back together. Gas was still orange. Today I pulled the filter off of the fuel pump to inspect and the filter was in 3 pieces and looked like it was dissolving away. This is a brand new fuel pump, what gives? anyone else run into this?

Perhaps a counterfeit filter.? The adhesive between the paper and end caps should not fall apart.
The paper also appears to be crushed more than necessary to seal the ends.

Can you add a spin on filter / water separator and not use the canister one and just leave it out? Also the fuel you added to the tank, did it have ethanol in it? That's the only thing I can think of that would dissolve that filter.

I was already planning to add a separator so yes, I think that will work just fine. I just put the filter cover back in place. Also, Yes on the ethanol gas. I do believe it was getting to coloration from the filter though because its coming out clean now. The fuel in the boat is also brand new and so is the tank.

I really hate ethanol in my gas, I know its not really a problem for vehicles that run all the time but the damage it does in toys and tools is terrible. I always plan to run clean gas through at the end of the season but I forgot last year. Man am I paying for it now....

Didn't take many pictures of the process but I managed to completely teardown the outdrive the other night. I wasn't sure what to expect because there was quite a bit of corrosion on the cases but for the most part everything looked really good. Going to replace 2 bearings due to some light corrosion, then put things back together. Tough part is I have to wait until next week for the bearing puller to arrive before I can move forward.

Oh man that takes some stones to disassemble a MC outdrive. You're going to put in new seals too I would imagine?

yeah, I went ahead and bought almost all the specialty tools. honestly the worst parts were the retainer nuts that the previous person tried to remove with either an axe or sledge. I at least always give thing the old college try before breaking out the heavy equipment LOL..

I so badly wanted this thing to be 100% complete before splashing but I just cant miss any more opportunities out on the water. Looks like paint will have to wait until fall. I finishes all of the loose ends with the electrical system, put all the chrome back on, finished the gas tank install (well except for the vent hose). I'll probably through something quick together as far as the doghouse goes just so its safe to take out with the kids. I can work on the real one as well as getting the two jump seats installed later.

here are a few pics from today, the original chrome cleaned up pretty well actually.

Now I'm just staring at these empty cases, the only thing keeping me from the lake. Hopefully everything comes in this week and I can finish up by the weekend.
