Well, this is my first post. I've been trying to read the threads and do this alone but I think I might could use a little help. I've stripped it all down and I've come to a sad conclusion. Even though this is my first boat, and I know very little about boats, this has to be the cheapest and most poorly built boat that's ever been afloat. With that said, it's what I have to work with so here we go.
If anyone ese has ever had a similar project I would appreciate a comment or two. I'll try to post some pictures when I get this posting business figured out.

Re: 1968 Lynn/Craft Seabreeze Rebuild

I was originally going to glass in the rubrail, but after I found out how thin the fiberglass is on this boat, I decided to try to make some changes. As I got into it I became more disenchanted with what I saw. The stringers weren't tabbed in, just a random placement of mat to hold them in place. They werent rotten but they were wet. The floor(deck) of the boat was actually in good shape enen though it's cut to pieces now. Here's what the stringers look like in the boat. Sorry about the pictures, crappy camera.

Here's where I'm at now. Since the skin of this boat is so thin I plan on adding a few more layers of glass when I tab in the stringers. Bear in mind, all I know about boats is what I've gleened from here, so I'm pretty dumb compared to most here. Hmmm..I see I've mispelled Lynn/Craft in the title. Oh well.

Re: 1968 Lynn/Craft Seabreeze Rebuild

I guess my first question is whether or not I should tear out this 1/4" in plywood the back part of the boat or should I just let dry out for a few days and glass over it. Most of it looks good but some is delaminating. Thanks again.

Nevermind. After letting it sit under a fan and dry for 3 days I lifted a small piece of the plywood saw some water. I guess I've answered my own question.

Well, I started tearing out the 1/4 " plywood from the back of the hull. I'm glad I made the decision to tear it all out. I thought initially the upper rows might be dry enough to leave. Nooo... when I pulled a piece up, lo and behold, there was water underneath most of it. Hopefully I'll finish tearing it out tomorrow so I can start grinding down the inside of the hull.
I also just noticed I cut through the hull in several places when I was cutting out the hull. Oh well...I'll patch them from the inside and fill them from the outside later.

Finished tearing out the 1/4 " plywood and ready to start grinding everything down. I made a few adjustments to the camera, guess I'm camera challenged. I guess I'll start on the actual keel first. I'm wondering if I should dig into it real good with the grinder then build it up with 2 or 3 inches of pb before laying alternating strips of 2, 3 and 4 of glass tape. Guess I better do some research on it. Later.

Well, got started grinding down the high spots and cleaning out all the crap down the top of the keel. After I get that done I'll wash it out real good, let it dry and sand it all down to good glass. This may take a while, I tend to work a little then take long breaks.

Welcome to iboats!

The grinding sucks but looks like you have a good start.

Was there FG over that plywood in the rear of the hull? I ask as that may be what they call a cored hull. I'm definitely not an expert but think that could mean you need to change your repair tactic. Hopefully one of the pros will chime in.

Also you can find the fix for your thread title here.

No, there was no fiberglass other than a few 8 inch squares draped over the edges in several places. It didn't look like the wood was even sealed.
Oh...thanks for the info on editing the title. I appreciate it.

Wish I was more help on the ??? about the wood but I'm a rank amateur myself. I have seen some threads where the manufacturer has plywood like that as a stiffener.

Might want to try and PM one of the pros like Oops! or Yacht Dr. to see if they will give a look and an opinion.

Well I got almost all of it ground and sanded out. Should have it finished tomorrow if all goes well. Then I'll take it outside and wash it out real good with soap and water. I guess I should let it dry a couple days. Then I think i'll probably put some tape and pb down the keel before I start layin the fb. We'll see.

jimb3,

If she were mine, I'd really try and fabricate a keel from plywood that woul fit into the depression for the keel. You should bed it in PB but filling the void totally with PB is not what I would do. If the Hull is thin and flimsy then a layer of 1.5 oz CSM and a Layer of 1708 Biaxial Cloth will really help. Looks like your doing a good job on grinding the hull down to fresh glass.

That's probably a better idea. I'll probably go with that. You think a piece of coved plywood would be better than solid 1 inch halfround? Thanks.

After thinking about it, I think the plywood would be easier to fabricate. thanks Wood.

Re: 1968 Lynn/Craft Seabreeze Rebuild

Well, I've been away for awhile. Had to do some things on the house and garage to get them ready to be painted, then I had to paint them. I'll try to get caught up here. I got the transom cut, glued together and tabbed-in. I used two peices of 3/4 inch marine plywood, made a good fillet and put two peices of overlapping 4 inch 8 ounce tape over the fillet. I then covered the transom with two layers of 1708, overlapping the first 6 inches and the second 12 inches on the inside of the hull.
Once the transom was in I got to work making the scaffolding which will allow me to work on the inside of the hull. The scaffolding is made with 4x4's, 3/4 inch plywood, 2x4's and 1 inch solid steel round stock. It's 22 inches wide which gives me a good platform to work from and gives me access to entire inside of the hull by sliding it across the round stock.
I'm now in the process of gluing some edge supports for floor( deck??). Had to make some clamps to do that. That's where I'm at now. Hope to start on the stringers next week.

Re: 1968 Lynn/Craft Seabreeze Rebuild

Well, I finally got the center stringer bedded in with a pretty good fillet. Tomorrow I'll put a couple layers of overlaping tape and start on the other two stringers. Hopefully, I'll get them and a couple of bulkheads in next week. After that I intend to cover them and the inside of the hull with a couple layers of 1708. Maybe by the middle of next month I'll have the floor in it.
