Hello Fellow Iboaters!

I am looking for some insight as I restore a 1968 Duo Boat (pictures attached). I have completely gutted the boat and I am confused by the design of the bilge area. Water seemed to actually build up around the bilge area instead of actually being able to pour out the transom drain hole. The transom drain hole is surrounded by a short wall of fiberglass making up the bilge(picture attached). I am wondering if I should replicate this design as I restore the boat. Appreciate the feedback.

I would recommend laying the new hole lower if possible and not build that wall around it. After you take it apart you'll be able to see if there is any chance to go lower.
Welcome aboard! Nice project there.

Yup, do what ever it takes to get the bottom of the hole to be flush with the bilge bottom. Also attempt to slope the sides and the front so anything everything flows to the drain tube.

Appreciate the feedback! Yes definitely got a project ahead of me haha. I attached some more photos as well. Hopefully I will be done gutting the boat this weekend (and clearing the bilge area) Next step will be creating and installing a new transom. I have done this before on an aluminum boat but never fiberglass...any advice on transom installs for fiberglass hulls?

In other news, the boat is now completely gutted! Now plans for a new deck and transom begin.

When I removed the transom multiple hard nubs were left (pictures attached) connected to the hull wall. They almost seem to be a part of the hull. I cannot determine whether they are made out of fiberglass or some other material. Do any of you have any experience with these things? My concern is when I go to install a new transom. Not sure how i am going to be able to install a new transom with these nubs attached to the wall.

Does anyone have any recommendations on certain brands of fiberglass resin for transom plywood before installation? This would be the resin i cover the plywood with and let dry before applying the thicker resin when I go to install. Appreciate any ideas! Thanks

In the process of doing transom and stringer repair on my 74 Duo.
used polyester laminating resin.
the protrusions from your transom in your picture look to me like thickened resin (likely packed into a hole or void) as part of a previous repair from the outside

Polyester Resin is pretty much "Brandless" meaning they're all the same. Lots of members have use the USComposites 635 resin with excellent results. You'll need Cabosil and chopped milled fibers to make the glue for the transom. Read the link I posted before and it will give you all the details
