Re: 1965 Leavens brothers Mariner Restoration

Im just finishing up fiberglassing my new floor, and i started to wonder about the inside of the transom. once i get a good coat of paint on the floor around the drain, the transom is going to look pretty crappy in comparison. What would i have to do to it before i paint it? does it just need a good scuffing and clean and then its good to go? or is there more prep work involved? I havent really painted much before, so any advise would be great!

thanks in advance

here is the pic

So i had some time to get a few things done on my boat and thought I would post some of the progress.

We gave the back a couple of coats of paint so it looks nice and clean when we put the new carpet in

We were originally going to buy a black carpet for the boat, but after some advise we decided to go with a dark blue color.. it looks likes its shade of gray but it is blue :)

Re: 1966 Leavens brothers Mariner Help

This weekend we are finally going to start trying to bring some of the shine back to the boat. from what i read this just means a lot of time and elbow grease.. should be a fun weekend lol

During the process of puting in the new floor, i managed to get a few drops of epoxy resin on the outside gelcoat. Does anyone have any ideas or product that would be good for getting it off? im starting to get nervous that after all my hard work the outside is going to look like crap.

Just thought i would put and updated photo of the boat after i bolted the seats in. The last photo of the carpet made the carpet look really dark for some reason.. you can really see the blue once you get it out into the light.

Hey DS, Make yerself a couple of these and buy some cheap seats for em. Make em 18-20" tall and they're reall comfy for fishin and set you up high enuf for gettin over those high gunwales on your boat. I made these for my boat out of 1" PVC for less than $5 bucks a piece.

Thanks for the great advise woodonglass.. to be honest with you, I was a little worried about how the fishing would be with the seats so low like that. I was trying to think of a few different ways to mount them but i ended up just using the mounts the came with the boat.

I'm going to try and rig something up very similar to that this weekend before i take her out for the first time. I'll post the pics and you can tell what you think.

thanks again!
