Model number 45631 Serial number 3219. Can anyone direct me to a number for the points and condensers? Have set the points but the spark is weak.
Also.....which set of contacts is for cylinder #1 ?? I only paid $25 for this motor... with controls and a tank of gas !!!

Old time screwdriver trick. I did get one side to fire nearly 1/2 inch!! and the other is pretty weak so I 'm closer. It said those points 18-5013 are used AFTER 1975...but they sure look like what is in there. Also need to find a flywheel key...I think I found that though....SPICY!!! $23...

I believe the points should be set at .015. Nordin would know what to set them at for sure and he will chime in. How is your compression?

Hard to see in the pics if it has magneto or battery ignition but I beleave it has magneto.
Points gap magneto ignition 020, battery ignition 015.
Magneto has the ignition coils under the flywheel, battery has the coils outside the flywheel on the block and need 12VDC from battery to operat.

Magneto points F12044, condenser F12042-1 but is N/A and tune up kit 18-5013
Battery ignition points F12329-2 but is N/A, condenser F12139-1 and tune up kit FK1075 but is also N/A.

Check out Ebay new unused points and condensers comes up now and then.

There are a lot of Magneto points F12044 out there...but the ads all say they are for 1975 motors. Since I did get one side to knock my teeth loose, I suspect I just need to work on these a bit. I plan on taking the plate down completely down for a thorough cleaning and I did order a set of point files. Oddly enough...the rest of the motor looks better than the point plate! So...I have a plan and parts ordered.....the only question for you guys right now is which coil goes to which cylinder? Kinda matters since this isn't a wasted spark ignition and I do not know the the POs have done. Oh...where are my manners? THANK YOU FOR THE REPLIES!!!

To check which ignition coil goes to which cylinder just pull the flywheel off.
Set the throttle in lowest position for idle as possible.
Pull the plugs out and put a screw driver into top plug hole.
Turn the crank shaft clockwise and stop when the screw driver is at farthest way out (piston in TDC).
Check which points is open and then you can trace which coil and condenser belongs to the #1 cylinder.

Okey, you are welcome.
The possible of edit disappear after a while.
If you want to edit you have to do it pretty close to when you post it!!

BTW The points and condenser are the same for all 45Hp magneto from about 1965 and all way up (maybe before 1965 during the West Bend brand).
The same is for the battery typ also. Same points all way up from early or mid 60.es.

Well okay then!! I guess I'm at a stand still ( save for cleaning up the plate) until the new $23 key gets here on Friday...IF USPS doesn't drop it at the wrong house....Guess I'll switch effort to the Gravely sitting in my drive.

Even with the sheared key...I had enough friction that it stayed lined up. She actually started while I was waiting on the new key. I took out the magneto kill wires and replaced them with new. Thinking there was a leak there. That's really all I can think of. Never had a Fairbanks give me this much trouble..
