1965 Johnson 33 super seahorse

Just wondering if I need to get a carb rebuild get for this or if anyone has a video on how to do it? Also it use to shift fine but when I had it out on the lake it was getting harder and herder to shift and now it won't shift at all! Help please! I'm a newbie to all of this.

Hi Xshawnx. Welcome to iboats. I used to have a '66 33 hp that was a great motor. If you haven't cleaned/rebuilt the carb in a while, then I would go ahead and do it. It's a pretty easy job and you can get a kit right here at iboats for about $25. As far as the shifting goes, that could be a few things. I would star]y by checking the shift rod connector found behind the little oval plate on the side of the leg. Give this link a read too. It will show you how to give your motor a tune up from top to bottom.

Why do you figure it needs a carburetor rebuild??

It runs ok but not like it should, it dies everytime it's in low idle. Plus it's sat for about 4 years! Also does anyone know where I can get the arm that the cable for the trams mission slides on to? It broke while trying to fix it!

Welcome to iboats! You'll find a lot of good advice and information here. I have a '67 33hp that I converted to a tiller steer and it's been a very reliable motor for me.

It doesn't hurt to do a carb rebuild, but the problem may simply be an adjustment of the low speed needle valve. As for the shifting issues, it's hard to say what it is by your description. It could be anything from an adjustment to the shift cable to the shift rod connection to a worn clutch dog. Considering the motor has been sitting for four years, it's best to have a complete "run through". Take a look at the "Top Secret File" that is a sticky topic on the Johnson/Evinrude forums. Also, invest into a manual. A factory manual is best, but at the very least get a seloc or clymer manual that covers a range of motors.

One other thing, you may want to post pics of any issues. As they say, pics say a thousand words.

Do you mean the shifter handle? Part number 378894 for RX-13B is listed as no longer available. Part number 380330 for RX-13E is available from Evinrude dealers. List price is $45. I MIGHT have a used one, have to look if you are interested. Send me a PM.
