Hey guys, i was recently given this 1964? Wellcraft...I was offered it for free and fell in love with it. I plan on doing a decent amount of work, but before the madness begins I am going to take it for a test run make sure everything is working fine mechanically. I will be asking you guys for a ton of advice along the way as this will be the first time i've ever restored a boat. Some of the things i plan on doing is painting the whole boat. Fixing all the pitted deck hardware i can. Making the original steering wheel look as close to mint as possible. And lots more!! I am going to try and keep you guys updated as much as i can and hopefully i stick with it...ive already got the motor running and replaced the water pump on my 1966 33hp Johnson. I also have got the steering up and back in order, the only thing left to do before my trial run is mount the controls free up the shift lever on the motor a little more(it will go into gear with some preasure applied, but it should shift with little pull) I plan on getting the missing grease fitting that goes on the motor to lube the shift assembly and im sure that will free it up with a little heat...anyway enough of me typing away ill get to the photos and first list of questions...any help would be greatly appreciated and guys just remember im on a very tight budget. as you can see in these pictures of my steering wheel the plasic as been busted up by someone trying to use a puller to remove it...any ideas how i can fill those missing plastic voids, also you see some pitted hardware on the steering wheel...i was going to wire brush it and then paint it will that work? i do have the original center cap for the wheel.
