1963 28hp super seahorse wiring help......

hello everyone,
I have recently restored a 1959 14" larson playbouy I have purchased a 1963 28hp super seahorse with electric start. My problem is I would like to have forward controls and ignition as well as accessories but I only see two wires coming from the engine one is a power wire for the starter and the other a ground ? Is it possible , have missed something? and if there are missing wires where do they go?. It is my understanding that the engine will run without it being hooked to a battery , but then how do I shut the engine off? with the choke?
If anyone can help me understand how to set this engine set up to run with the electric start and accessories please get back to me

So are the wires the heavy battery cable hookups (4AWG)? If so, is there a starter solenoid under the hood? For tiller motors there are usually pushbuttons for start and kill on the lower cowl. For remote control motors, the solenoid is usually in an external junction box with a wiring harness that plugs in the starboard side of the motor.

yes the two wires are heavy duty, the red wire goes directrly to the starter and the black is grounded ,Im not sure if they are supposed to be there but someone has put battery conectors on the ends?? ..... there are no other wires conected to the starter . i just took another look and i see nothing as far as wires or even conectors, I could take some pictures and if that will help

The heavy red wire going to the starter should NOT go directly to the battery - it should attach to one of the large posts of the starter solenoid and go to the positive battery terminal. There should be another heavy red wire attached to the other large post of the starter solenoid which goes to the starter. The black ground will go direct to the battery negative terminal. If you hooked it up to a battery as-is, it would fire the starter continuously. That is what the solenoid does - allows you to feed 12 volts to the starter intermittently through a keyswitch or pushbutton.

OK i didnt think that was right , I understand how the silonoid works but how do i shut the engine off if the silonoid is just for the starter? Am I missing something simple here ? I am a newb to outboards sorry and thanks for the help .

There may be two wires (usually black) coming out from under the flywheel which are the kill wires. If they aren't there already, you'd have to add them by removing the flywheel and attaching one wire to each set of points. Connecting those two wires will kill the engine. Your motor should have a cut-out switch on the port side, and there should already be a black wire going to the center terminal. That wire should run to the rear set of points already, so all you have to do is add another wire to that center post for one of your kill wires. Then on to one side of a pushbutton. The wire from the other set of points goes to the other side of the pushbutton.
