Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

Yes it was a lot of grinding but I worked in aircraft sheetmetal for ten years and spent many hours and days grinding corrosion in the belly and fuel tanks of large aircraft. I know lots of short cuts and time saving methods and I have a good supply of special grinding disk ( wink, wink) and most important is "you got to get your mind right luke"LOL. I just need to fill some holes caused by pitting and get it gluvited and painted. I will be gone on VAC next week so I will not get much done next week except to rest up and hit it when I get back.:D

Agreed! Your rack seems to be doing the trick!

BTW, I am stealing your patent pending rack system for my restoration! I will vary the design enough as to not infringe on the copyright. :D

Yeah I am quite pleased with my flipper and its sturdier than I expected. I have been climbing up into the bow and everywhere else on the boat and it has not moved. I have never used gluvit before so would it be better to flip it back on its keel to apply it or is it thick enough to do it on its side also thanks for the feedback.:D

I'd flip it back right-side-up so the Gluvit flows evenly and not to one side.

Thanks EZ, I also forgot to ask if I should fill the bigger and deeper pits before I use the gluvit or will the gluvit fill them.

Personally I'd just Gluvit them. Just an opinion though not based on any metallurgical fact or anything :p

Thanks EZ, if it worked for you that's good enough for me. I also have a gallon of this two part aircraft fuel tank paint that is fuel and most everything else proof that I may try after I use the gluvit. I know it is hard as a rock when dry and also flexable and is made for aluminum I will try it on a test piece first to see if it works with the gluvit;)

Re: 1963 16 ft Starcraft Jupiter restoration

Hello All, well project today was to work on the bottom of the boat to mostly see what condition its in. I did some sanding and cleaning and it looks pretty good and just a few spots that need some work. I found a hole in the keel that I think is a drain but need someone to confirm that for me in case I need to patch it. it looks like a drilled hole so I would guess its a drain as seen in the picture and thanks.

Thanks Cool, I only have the one in front. I would think there should be two also one in front and one in back is that how yours is.
