1963 10 hp sportwin

Can I break into this lower unit and change the shift bushing O Ring without ant special tools and is there anything tricky i need to look for, I drained the oil today it was milky white and only about half of what i put in came out, I defininatly have a leaking issue....Thanks Jason

Well, that would be best to be removed with a shift rod seal removal tool. I just bought one from F_R this week and it works great. I spent $17.50 for it and that includes shipping.

Will i still have to open up the lower unit to change it with the tool and where did you get the tool?

Sure you have to open the case. You have to remove the shift rod from the bushing before you can remove the bushing and seal. Send me a PM with your e-mail address.

When you re-install the bushing, apply a small film of gasket sealer on the bushing, so it doesn't have a chance of leaking water around it.:cool:
