Hello Fellow Boaters,
I have a 1959 v4 50 horse evinrude. It has a rebuilt carb, new wires and plugs. It starts right up and idles smooth but under load it gets to about 1200 rpm and 6 knotts. It will rev with no load but not under load. Its on a 17' 1965 starcraft fiberglass special. The boat has a new transom and floor, not waterlogged. Any suggestions?
Thanx

Did you replace coils? Check spark - make sure all four are firing. How is the compression?

Almost certainly isn't running on all four cylinders. It has two sets of breaker points, each fires two cylinders. It also has a two barrel carburetor, each side supplying fuel to two cylinders. Did the guy that rebuilt the carburetor check the orifice plugs? One could be gummed up or something. Yes, it does have adjustable high speed needles AND orifice plugs. The high speed needles should be open 1/2 turn plus two clicks.

DON'T be revving it up in neutral!!!! They aren't pretty when they explode. Ask me how I know.
