Re: 1957 Duracraft Duraflite Custom

Looks like a nice mod to the HF brake... I need a real brake, mines a hodge podge of old hinges and scrap pieces of wood. Told the admiral that fathers day is coming up soon...

Nice work bench! I just purchased a new mig welder and am having a blast fabricating stuff for the DuraCraft's trailer. I'll have to post some pictures on my thread. I know what you mean about staying focused on work instead of playing with the boats, try coming to work and all your project toys are there with you LOL :) Some days the customers vehicles don't all get done ;)

Tools are cool. My bro just bought a 36" brake from HF. He's asking me if he should buy it. I was honest with him, I told him I'd use it for boats. I'm not sure if you'll get you money out of it. So he bought it. I may try to fab up a gas tank for the Offshore with it. What you got in mind for yours?

Tried to make time to take the Admiral fishing today, but fortunately got held up at home for about an hour & a half. Just as I was getting ready to gear up & head out, it started to rain. A deluge that would have made Noah nervous.....

Now that the forum is acting up less, lets make it official, there's a new boat in the boathouse:

I've already pulled & fab'd a replacement 'cap' under the bow plate, but didn't take any pix of it in process. But in the pix below you can see part of the new blue bow cover just to the right of my mom.

It's been splashed, and fished:

Mom & pop approved:

Not sure why she grabbed the paddle for a pix, but the paddle was NOT required........

Need to sort out a 1969 4hp or a 1955 5.5hp. For now it's puttering around just fine w/ a 1981 single cylinder 2hp.

In a rush to get it ready to splash for Memorial Weekend, I didn't finish several changes, but did fab a new inner & outer transom as well as aluminum motor plates to protect the inside & outside transom wood. I get new reg#s made at work, and put them on as well as a new capacity sticker:

If the forum continues to act up, it may be a while before I update the Duracraft Topic or start a Topic for the Sea Nymph, but uber psyched to have bought, splashed & fished a boat in less then 90days............

Also on a side note, I'm delivering the Jupiter I posted in my Holiday Topic to a fellow Starmadian in a couple weeks. Looking forward to getting a tour of his boat shed & possibly taking an early dip test in his current project. It's a long weekend that will include a possible boat pickup, definitely a motor pickup, and a day at a vintage tin boat fest.

So from a little, sort of inactive boathouse in WV, have a great pending week. I look forward to the forum getting it's problems sorted out and having some great updates to share & see some updates from you all.

Really nice catch! Love it! Acquired, repaired, outfitted, fished and Mom approved, all in just a couple of posts...Outstanding!
To say that I am at the same time stoked, happy and jealous is an understatement...
Great Job!
Hope the near future travel plans work out better than planned...

Nice rego numbers and cap sticker. You can't go wrong when it's Mom approved. :thumb:

Hope pic posting is improved so you can show some from the Old Tin shindig!

Yep, state park, cabin, folks were in town, the only thing missing was the Admiral. :grumpy: Her mom was hospitalized late Fri & my wife stayed there w/ her thru Tues am. Missed the whole trip

I made 4 round trips over the 4 day weekend :car: but still got LOTS of R&R and fishing :fish2: 2X a day w/ pop was GREAT! Out of a floating, running boat I own

Thanks for stopping by WOG

Nope, there can't. Get to see them again over the summer & I'll probably drag the SeaNymph over there. My sister & her boys will be in from California. I suspect it'd be an easy sell to get them to go fishing w/ me & pop.

Her mom had an extremely severe allergic reaction to antibiotics after a dentist's visit the day before. 2nd time she's had to hospitalized for 4 days after the dentist..... Home & doing fine now. She is a tad apprehensive about her next dentist appt later this week :bolt: Can't really blame her....

Thanks for the well wishes & thoughts

Nothing like a big grin while fishing from tin! Those little SN's are great boats, I had one for many years and caught more fish from it than my big one for some reason.

JB - I saw your post in jig's thread about the PM system.

I was playing around with my PMs and deleting take a few steps. First pick some message threads to delete, after deleting from the inbox, go to the Trash folder and select the threads again and do a permanent delete. I think the message total is all those in the inbox and trash. I haven't found away to find the total number of messages like the old way. Hope it helps and you probably figured it out already. We need an operation manual.

Well, it's certainly been 2wks I never want to repeat.

Over the last 2 weeks, I've worked 125hr+, seen my admiral nearly buckle under the strain of having to care for 2 aging parents, both of whom were hospitalized for more then 5 days. I made a fabulous trip to Tenn to drop off a Jupiter to SigSaur and made a detour thru NC to attend a Feathercraft boat in.

Once her mom was released from the hospital, and her father had improved & become more stable, the Admiral and I decided that I could take the Tenn-NC trip I'd been planning for months. And hit the road last Thurs w/ the Jupiter in tow.

I got to Sig's place and; got the quick tour of the boat hanger. I have SERIOUS work space envy. We hung out briefly, talked about all things boats, SC's, and life, and since Sig had gotten called into work, cutting our day short, we headed out to take a look at a trailer for his SL project.

When Sig and I got back from the trailer pickup, I was able to get a cell signal to call in after getting a msg no one would ever want to get. Unfortunately, my FIL was no longer with us. Her mom was released 4 days before he passed, and they were both with him at the end.

Sig & I had a quick lunch and I hit the road. I did make the leg thru NC, but was only there for a few short hours before turning back north. Some time I will share more about the boat in fest, but suffice to say I will go again next year.

If the Iboats crowd could organize an event w/ half as many in attendance that was only half the great times, it would still be a great success...

We will be receiving out of town family starting late tonight thru the Wed visitation, and many will return home after the military ceremony at the local National Cemetery. So the next few days will be busy.

I hate that it's true, but: I haven't been to the new boat shed for actual boat work in quite a while. And there is none pending.

I have been navigating the troubled forum waters as best I can, but I apologize, I must take a time-out for at least the rest of the week, perhaps 10days 2wks.

Thank you in advance for any condolences and well wishes, I may not log back on for many days.

As such, w/ the current upheaval of Topic update notifications and etc, I am turning off my preferences for notification. Again, thank you for all that the iboats community has done for me in the past and will continue to do for the masses despite the current problems.

Many of you have my cell#, email and/or address. Those of you that do, may share the info w/ those that ask.

Thank you for your support and understanding........
