Nope.. thats what a cracked block looks like....
Looks like you're going to need a powerhead or at least a good block...

jmo, but i think your powerhead is nfg, dont think that issue can be fixed or is worth fixing. id google doug penn, and see if you can get a short block from him and transfer your ignition and carb to it. ( still way cheaper than repowering your rig)

The block is in a nutshell the aluminum part that houses the cylinders, pistons, crank, etc... It's the base of the engine if you will.
What you see broken is the part of the block that the cylinder sleeves are pressed into at the factory. The sleeve is that inner circle that the piston lives in, it's made out of steel, and is used because the piston rings would wear away a cylinder very quickly if it were just bare aluminum. Unfortunately it's all integral to the block. You can't replace pieces of the block, because it's all one piece.

You can however get a replacement block and transfer parts if you're so inclined, or an entire powerhead which would be the majority of the engine that bolts to the mid section. Parts, and pieces are still available, some new, some carefully used. If this is beyond you, you have two more options.

Sell it whole as it is to someone who either wants a parts motor for their runner, or wants to do the work to fix her up

OR....

Turn her into an organ donor by either parting her out to others, or using her good parts to fix up another engine in better shape.

What ever you do, don't toss or scrap her. She's worth way more than that....

Now's the time to sit down, and have a beer or two, and carefully consider your options...

is it just a hollow block? ie no crank and pistons??( price is good tho, but the nickel and dime stuff will add up) id still check the salvage yards and google doug penn...email him ! a known good short block is a much better easier option than transferring pistons and crank to another block . jmo

Ask the seller what the condition of the cylinders are, and the condition of the main journals for the crank bearings. Could be a good deal if it's in good shape.

Just keep in mind, as quickly as you found this one, it's possible to find another one in the same or better shape. Evinrude made LOTS of these engines, and allot of them survived (at least in pieces if not whole). What I'm saying is, shop cautiously, this may be a great block, but if it isn't there are plenty more out there to go around...

Post a wanted ad at aomci.org in the webvertize section for a good, powerhead. I think you will be able to get one for that still assembled, then you just have to bolt it on. Just my 2 cents.

Chris, just out of curiosity, what do you think would have caused that break in the block? ive never seen that type of separation between the sleeve and the block in any water cooled engine. freeze break??

Im not sure Tim. Maybe Frank can help here. I have never seen that happen befoe myself! Pretty bad. It would take a heck of a lot of water to crack that, and I dont know how it would all get there and stay there to freeze, unless it was submerged? Maybe just a faulty block.
