I just grabbed a 1956 Scott Atwater 7.5hp bail o matic. Clean as can be. Was told it hasnt ran in 2 years and had no spark. Cleaned points, I now have healthy spark. Couple questions...Im lookin for a water pump and assorted gaskets. Anyone have a definite part number. Im finding a couple different options. Also, lower unit oil. It says "grease" and vent. Do I need to remove the gear box and pack with motor builders grease, or will a good 90w gear lube be ok? Should have it running this weekend hopefully. Have a wonderful night folks.

80w90 is.fine.for.the lower unit. New pumps.are available on ebay but be warned I tried one and it did not work well. Honda 4 strke pumps work but have to be shimmed i will be trying my first one this year. Otherwise go to the AOMCI guys on there can make them for.you.

I know how folks like pictures and I couldnt upload from my phone, so here are a few from earlier. I pulled the "grease" plug and I got a grey goopy liquid. Im guessing I have a slight issue down there. Guess Ill spend this weekend taking the lower end apart and cleaning that out. Till this weekend folks.....

ScoobaSteve I used to run the old scott engines back in the 50.s. When it was time to change the lower unit gear oil , I added STP back then with the grease about 50-50. Never had a problem with losing any because of the sticky properties of the mix. Today Lucas would do the same.
